You might love getting the chance to host friends and family in your home and there’s no better excuse to open your doors than when you’re throwing a dinner party. These occasions provide the perfect chance for you to show off your skills in the kitchen and they’re also a great way to spend an evening.

Across the UK, there’s a craze of dinner parties. In the past, Brits were renowned for their lack of adventurous eating habits, but with the rise of the celebrity chef and the take-off of the country’s gourmet restaurant industry, it seems people are now taking every opportunity to don their aprons and get out their recipe books. The only downside to hosting gatherings like this is waking up the next day to the mess left behind. From carpet stains to piles of dishes, the morning after the night before can leave a bitter taste in your mouth. The good news is, you can turn to cleaning companies in London to sort this out for you.

Not your average dinner party

One lady who recently held a dinner party with a difference was actress Sarah Jessica Parker. The Sex and the City Star, who’s married to fellow celeb Matthew Broderick, opened her home up to US president Barack Obama and first lady Michelle.

The event was held as a fundraiser for his re-election campaign and a total of 50 guests turned up. Among those lucky enough to be invited were Meryl Streep, Aretha Franklin and Olivia Wilde and it is reported that people paid up to $40,000 (£25,507) pounds for the privilege.

Great job

It seems SJP did a great job of sprucing up her New York abode, which is in the West Village area of the city. There was plenty of art on the walls, floor-to-ceiling bookcases and marble fire places decorated with flowers.

No doubt the hostess needed some help getting her property ready for her esteemed guests and there must’ve been more than one cook in her kitchen. Meanwhile, it’s likely the A-lister got in some assistance to clear up after.

Heartfelt praise

SJP received some words of praise from the president, whose election campaign benefited from the dinner to the tune of $2 million. Obama thanked “Sarah Jessica” and “her whole crew”, calling them “great friends” and stating she is a “great leader and champion on behalf of the arts”.

Then, showing his sense of humour, he added: “I recognise that most of you are here to see Michelle. I always explain I rank fifth in the hierarchy in the White House. There’s Michelle, my mother-in-law, the two girls and Bo. So that actually makes it six. In terms of star wattage, people come to the White House and say, “Where’s Michelle?”.
